Economy-wide Analysis of Greenhouse Gases Reduction Strategies Using Macroeconomic Models

Absrtact
TAIGEM-D and GTEM-Taiwan, both developed by the Center for Sustainable Development at the National Tsing Hua University, were used to evaluate the economic impacts as well as the emission reduction cost (ERC) of various control strategies of greenhouse gases. The results indicate that Taiwan’s ERC is much higher than most of the industrialized Annex I countries. More importantly, Taiwan, when excluded from participating in the international emission trade, will lose substantial cost competitiveness in emission reduction.
